Fire Scene Evidence Collection Guide

This web site from the International Association of Arson Investigators provides evidence collection procedures and demonstrations for the most common types of evidence encountered at a fire scene. Collection procedures, checklists of important actions to do to ensure the integrity of the evidence collected, and an evidence-related FAQ are accessed from the top navigation bar.  Select "References" to review the sources used to compile the procedures and  "Contributors" for a list of experts who vetted those procedures.

Select a type of evidence to review its collection and packaging procedures.

Remember to also review the Checklists prior to collection and prior to releasing the scene.

DID YOU KNOW?

If you wear snug-fitting evidence collection gloves for an extended period of time, the sweat on your hands can stick to the ridges on your fingertips and your prints may transfer onto a clean surface. Learn more in the FAQ.
