Marine Fire Investigation is a 3 1/2 day class on investigating fires on marine vessels. Developed through a collaboration between the IAAI and the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), students receive training from IAAI facilitators, industry leading marine fire investigations, marine surveyors, engineers and special investigators. Topics will include the following: safety, hot surface ignition, marine explosions, electrical systems, vessel terminology, interviews, data collection, scientific method, methodology, legal considerations and evidence. Utilizing the team concept, classes conclude with a hands-on investigation of a Pre-burnt vessel, generation of a preliminary report, and presentation of each team's findings to the class.
Upon completion of this class, students will understand marine vessel terminology, concepts of how marine electrical and propulsion systems are configured and operate, and safe and practical methods of investigating marine fires.
Class starts promptly at 8am on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
Class will be dismissed at 3pm on Friday, June 20, 2025
This course is 30 hours of instruction.

Pre-Requisites are required as supporting knowledge for the class and the examination. Materials within the class and examination will reference all Pre-Requisites.
