Competency in Motor Vehicle Fires Lesson Plan

Method of Instruction: Directed, Self-Paced/Self-Study Learning Model

Credit Hours: 8 hours of Training

Purpose: This learning curriculum is designed to serve as a foundational course, introducing students to the fundamental aspects of motor vehicle systems and motor vehicle fire investigation as outlined in Level of Understanding: NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations. This course will serve as a prerequisite to the IAAI-Motor Vehicle Fire Investigator Endorsement Program.

At the conclusion of this module the students will be able to:

1. Define fire growth and development in a motor vehicle fire
2. Identify fuels and ignitable liquids in motor vehicle
3. Define vehicle systems and Explain their function
4. Define vehicle compartments and Identify sources of ignition
5. Define motor vehicle fire scene investigation techniques and safety protocols
6. Explain the process of examining a motor vehicle
7. Identify fire patterns and burn indicators on a motor vehicle and Explain their relevance

Students will be required to read the identified learning material and will be required to successfully challenge a comprehensive written examination. A passing score of 75% on the comprehensive written examination is required to receive credit for this program.
